Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was founded on January 16, 1920, on the campus of Howard University in Washington D.C. as a community service organization. The Sorority was established by five women under the principles of Service, Scholarship, Sisterly Love and Finer Womanhood with the charge of being a community-conscious, action-oriented organization.

Since its inception the Sorority has expanded to encompass more than 500+ graduate and collegiate chapters around the world including chapters in The Unites States, Africa, Germany, The Virgin Island, Japan and Korea among others. In our 90+ years of service, countless numbers of women have dedicated their lives to the emulation of the ideals of the Sorority which was set by our Founders.

The Iota Delta Zeta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was chartered by ten members of the Epsilon Phi Zeta chapter as a result of growing numbers within that chapter. Three Bay Area city chapters were chartered as a result: Hayward, Oakland and Berkeley.
